Ka nama kaa lajerama

Here are some Reaper Miniature serpent guys. Very cool. I'll use them either as the basis of a Song of Blades and Heroes warband, or as Yig/Set/Valossian bad guys in an RPG game.

Harad

I've done some painting recently. As always, excuse the terrible pictures (and mediocre painting).
First up are some Harad guys for Lord of the Rings

I also got a pack of Perry Armies of Islam guys. One of them I painted up to use as a leader for my Harad foot. Here's a picture of him next to one of the plastic Harad guys.

I have some metal mounted Harad Raiders coming.

LotR AAR

Well, the Iron Duke and I battled it out last night in the Lord of The Rings Strategy Battle Game.

We had played the LotR game a long while ago, but I decided I wanted to try it again the Duke was game.

I had a force of mixed Warriors of Minas Tirith (bows, spears, and sword and shield) along with Radagast, an unnamed Captain of Minas Tirith and a Warrior of Minas Tirith with a Standard.

The Duke had Saruman, Grima, some Uruk Hai with shields, and Uruk Hai Standard, and some berserkers.

We played the Take and Hold scenario out of the Legions of Middle Earth book.

I got trounced. There was point where I could have one the scenario if the dice roll to end the game had gone off, but it would have been on a technicality.

Not sure what my overall problem was, besides cold dice on my part.

Some things I noticed.

My archers seemed pretty worthless. They hit on a 4+, but with a Str of 2 they wound Defense 5/6 uruks on a roll of a 6. So they have around a 7% chance of wounding or less. I had 6 archers and never wounded during the entire battle.

I need something with more punch. Radagast doesn't seem to be worth the points. Next time I think I'll take a mounted Faramir and some knights instead.

The Isengard berserkers are tough. The two attacks is a killer.

I'm sure we'll play again, and I'll try and remember to take some pictures.

LoTR stuff

Me and the Iron Duke are going to do some Lord of The Rings SBG gaming. I've been buying the figs for it off and on since GW started producing them. I have bunch, but not much painted yet.

Here are some that I do have finished. Trying to keep them simple.

Warriors of Minas Tirith Radagast the Brown and Eowen

Stormin' Normans

Here are pics of the Normans I've been working on. They will do double duty as both Normans and Frankish Crusaders from the First Crusade. They are primarily from Crusader Minis, but there are some Perry Miniatures first Crusade guys.

I also have painted up 2 of the Conquest Games plastic Norman knights, 10 more to in the box to finish. I really like them and they paint up easy. I got those from Architects of War, they also carry the Gripping Beast stuff. So I'll probably get some other stuff from them soon.

The pics are not the greatest. I need to work on my photo skills.

Lord of the Rings

Well, my daughter has started reading the Hobbit. Which has lead me to dust off my GW LoTR stuff.

I have about 10 Minas Tirith foot soldiers painted up, so I'm going to finish up a bunch more of them; they are super-easy-peasy to paint. Then I have some mounted Minas Tirith guys, some rangers, Radagast, and the fellowship to round out a Good Force.

For bad guys I already had the orcs that came in the Return of the King boxset. I picked up a box of Harad warriors (which will do double-duty as Arabs in my 1st crusade RPG ). I also picked up a mounted and on foot version of one of the Ringwraiths from the bargain bin at the local comic shop. I'll probably get some more Mordor orcs and maybe some Uruk Hai. I may also pick up some mounted Harad guys.

Not sure how long interest will hold. I'll try and get some pics of my Minas Tirith guys up.

A mega-battle I won't be attending...

So I read something on a local game shoppe forum and had something to say about it. But I didn't want to say it on that forum, because I fear confrontation. Strange that I like WAR games, but fear confrontation....

Anyway, I then realized that I had a blog and it was time for my yearly post.

What I found on the forum was that they were going to have a Warhammer Mega-Battle. I don't go in for tournaments, but this sounded kind of fun. So I read the rules, and this one pretty much locked-in my non-participation:

"“What You See Is What You Get” is mandatory—models must reflect what you have paid for. They do NOT have to be painted, but must be assembled. All models must be Citadel Miniatures or Forge World; conversions MUST include a majority of CM or FW components. Illegal models WILL be removed from the table. "

Two things. A mega-battle with a bunch of un-painted models would look like crap. So if they don't care if the models are unpainted, why do they give shit if they are GW models? Just nuts.

My WFB armies are pretty much all GW, but I have some other stuff in them that I think is cool. But, I try to always have Painted Minis when I play. Especially in a big public thing.

Oh, well. Rant over. I'll blog again.....sometime.
